Trenton, NJ – The Trenton Restorative Street Team (TRST), in partnership with the City of Trenton and numerous community organizations, is thrilled to announce the Week of Shalom, a series of events dedicated to promoting justice and peace in the streets of Trenton. This week-long initiative, running from July 8, 2024, to July 14, 2024, aims to unite the community in a collective effort to restore harmony and safety across the city.

The Week of Shalom will feature daily events designed to engage residents of all ages while fostering a sense of community and shared responsibility. Highlights of the week include:

  • Interfaith Prayer for Peace at The Battle Monument in Trenton

  • Returning Citizens Job Fair at The Father Center of NJ in Trenton

  • Say Their Names Prayer Vigil at The Serenity Garden in Trenton

  • Interfaith Prayer for Peace at The Battle Monument in Trenton

  • Peace March: The week will culminate in a city-wide peace walk, starting from various points in Trenton and converging at Mill Hill Park, symbolizing the city's unified stand for peace.

“TRST exists to help restore justice and promote peace in Trenton Streets,” said Pastor Antonio Bellamy, Program Coordinator of the Trenton Restorative Street Team. “We invite every Trentonian out to be a part of this movement as we stand against violence in our beloved city! We hurt together, we hope together, we heal together!”

The Trenton Restorative Street Team is a Salvation and Social Justice initiative. Salvation and Social Justice is a non-partisan, Black, faith-rooted organization that led the campaign for the Seabrooks-Washington Community-Led Crisis Response Act (S4250) signed into law by Governor Murphy in January. This historic legislation allocates $12 million to establish and support a community-led crisis response team pilot program in six municipalities across the state.

“Too often, the critique of our community is that we are not doing enough to stop the violence in our neighborhoods. They say we aren’t showing up for the kids or having the hard conversations, but through their tireless work and commitment TRST challenges and dispels those narratives providing invaluable resources and programs dedicated to the holistic health, wellness and safety of our people.  This is the power of community-led solutions.”---Racquel Romans-Henry, Director of Policy, Salvation and Social Justice

The Trenton Restorative Justice Team invites all community members to join in the Week of Shalom and take part in these meaningful events. Together, we can create a brighter, more peaceful future for Trenton.
